A GROUP of women artists are presenting varied art from their democratic feminist collective from Saturday, September 7 to 13 at St Ives Arts Club with free admission.
This exhibition, Taking Space, has the ceramicist Jen Donkin Gourley using vibrant colours and a wide repertoire of forms. Suzanne Stobbs uses a variety of techniques to riff on the seaside scene with wit and charm.
Linda Mary Jones brings an imaginative vision of prehistory with atmosphere and panache or observes the present with a lively eye. Founder member Mary Fletcher astonishes with her range of topics unified by her long honed skill in economical observational drawing.
She would like to be described like Bonnard, in a review by Geffoy, as having ‘a touch of impudent gaiety’. They are only there for one week before the St Ives September Festival sweeps into town.
New applicants to the group are welcome to apply if they want to take their art seriously and seek to develop their ideas. Belonging to a group is not everyone’s forte but can give encouragement and opportunities that working entirely alone does not.
