THE Taking Space art exhibition, now in its 31st year as a collective of women artists, is taking place at the Crypt Gallery St Ives on August 3 to 9.
The show will be open from 10am to 4.30pm daily, except for the first day which starts from 2pm, with works available for sale and free admission. The Crypt is situated in the Mariners’ Church in St Ives’ town centre.
The artists involved include Jen Donkin Gourley from West Cornwall who has recently joined the Taking Space team. Jen aims to make earthenware functional ceramics which also bring joy, She uses colour intuitively and explore the world around her.
Joining the group is Linda Mary Jones, who hails from St Austell. She paints landscapes with figures which are a combination of observation and enigmatic imagination, while she also tries to express a sense of timelessness.
Suzanne Stobbs rejoined after a year devoted to writing. Her paintings are inspired by West Cornwall where she lives and also produces colourful mosaic and felted work.
Mary Fletcher, a founder member, living and working in St Ives, continues her art about her experiences, often using rhythm and colour to recreate the excitement of live music gigs during which she has made drawings.
