A WOMAN is taking the plunge and embarking on an epic fundraising challenge to celebrate a milestone.

Tracy Date, of Newquay, who has been working at the Brandon Trust for 30 years, will be swimming in the sea, no matter the weather, for 30 days, for the charity’s 30th anniversary.

The money raised during the 30 for 30 wild swim challenge will be help the charity support people with learning disabilities and autism.

Tracey, aged 54, joined Brandon in 1995 as part of an NHS transferred workforce and since then has worked in roles in residential care, supported living, day services and enterprises.

Tracy, Brandon’s chief business development, enterprise and partnerships officer, said: “This year marks my 30th anniversary working for the fabulous Brandon Trust, and it just so happens to be our 30th birthday too.

“To celebrate this milestone, I'm taking on the 30 for 30 challenges by doing 30 sea swims. All the money raised will go towards supporting people with learning disabilities, helping them tackle everyday obstacles like poor healthcare, loneliness, unemployment, social poverty and hate crime.

“Now, I usually don't ask for donations, but this year is special, and our ambitions are sky-high for the people we support.

“So, if anyone could dig deep, literally, rummage down the back of the sofa, and find a few pounds, that would be absolutely fantastic.

“And to sweeten the deal, I'll even post some hilarious videos of my aquatic adventures for you to enjoy while you donate. Think of it as comedy with a cause.”

Brandon supports children, young people and adults with learning disabilities and autism to live life in the way they choose. The charity provides high-quality, individual support that focuses on enabling people to achieve their dreams and live free.

A spokesperson for Brandon said: “Thirty years ago, people were still confined in institutions and derogative language to describe people with learning disabilities was common.

“We have seen so much change; a generational shift of people living more independently in their own homes and communities.”
