A LARGE parade, the biggest in recent times, took place in the centre of St Austell on Remembrance Sunday.
Hundreds of people lined the route as the parade, led by mayor Julian Young, passed through the streets from St John’s Methodist Church to Holy Trinity Church for wreath laying and a church service. After the service, there was a march past and salute.
Town clerk David Pooley said: “The parade was bigger than ever. Particular thanks this year must go to the police and Coast to Coast Security who kept the parade participants safe, the Royal British Legion for organising the logistics of the whole event, Holy Trinity Church for such a beautiful service and to St Austell Band.”
The mayor was up early on Armistice Day to place a wreath on the 5:53am Poppies to Paddington train and was then back at the town’s war memorial for a ceremony at 11am.
