A NEWQUAY arts festival is certainly flourishing following plans to stage a second event.

Nansledan Arts Festival is being held between June 9 and 15, which will include visual and street art, music performances, creative and comedy writing, illustration and workshops.

The theme is flourish to build on the connections made within Nansledan, Newquay and the wider Cornwall area in 2024.

The popular art trail will be on display again and festival organisers looking for local artists who want to take part.

Performing artists, artisans and crafters who are passionate about sharing their skills through workshops and talks are also asked to get in touch.

A garden trail around Nansledan is also being organised.

Residents who have a well-established garden or are starting their garden journey are welcome to join in.

A competition was held to design an image to represent the flourish theme for the Nansledan Arts Festival, which was won by 13-year-old Victoria Chernenko for her painting of sunflowers.

Victoria’s painting will feature on festival leaflets, social media posts and flyers.

Nicola Craddock from Nansledan Arts Festival committee said: “Following on from a successful inaugural weekend in 2024, Nansledan Arts Festival members are delighted to be planning a second festival.

“Groups from within the community, the Duchy of Cornwall, Nansledan School and local artists and businesses are all working together to make it a festival to remember.

“The Nansledan Arts Festival committee is looking for local artists who want to take part.

“We will be pleased to hear from them.

“Our very first competition of this season was to design an image to be the face of the festival.

“All the entries were amazing, and the final winning image was a stunning painting of sunflowers by Victoria.”
