NEWQUAY Male Voice Choir have announced its revised new music team.

Tony Harries has accepted the position of Musical Director (MD) with Spud Yeomans continuing in his role as Deputy MD, while the choir’s new new accompanist is Rachel Margetts.

Tony will be known to many in the Newquay area as he is already MD of the Newquay Singers. Spud, as well as supporting Tony, also sings with Oll an Gwella and the Newquay Rowing Club Singers, while Rachel is a developing talent with a very bright future as an accomplished pianist and organist.

The new team has already set about introducing new pieces into the choir’s repertoire. A new MD always changes the personality, performance and presentation of a choir and Tony has already made great strides in all these aspects.

Their first public performance under the new management is on Saturday, March 29 at 7pm in St Columb Minor Church in aid of Cornwall Hospice Care. The concert is shared with the Mabe Ladies Choir.

The ladies choir have been an intrinsic feature of the Cornish musical landscape since 1931. They are a multi award winning mixed generation choir, renowned for their mellow tone as well as characterful and sensitive singing.

Their musicality is only matched by the love they have for the county and one another. They are also renowned for the humour and audience engagement that characterises their performance.

Newquay MVC is looking forward to taking their new look and sound to St Columb Minor and bringing such an established ladies choir with them.

Admission will be payable at the door, and there will be a raffle and a retiring collection.

The choir’s next outing after that will be on Wednesday, April 9 at 7pm in St Michael’s Church when they will be joined by the Aber Valley Male Choir from South Wales.
