Ethical Penryn chocolate company Rio Nuevo will take over The Cornish Bakery in Truro from February 7, offering a rich chocolate-filled month of experiences. The event will last until March 7, and will include a wine and chocolate couple’s evening on Valentine’s Day.

The Boscawen Street bakery’s customers will be offered regular complimentary samples and tastings including the 60 per cent drinking chocolate with its notes of caramel, raisins and rose, and the citrusy chocolate orange bar - all vegan.

The Cornish Bakery started out in Mevagissey, and now has 66 stores nationwide. The Rio Nuevo chocolate bars are available in all stores and online; during the ‘month of love’ takeover, the Rio Nuevo hot chocolate will be available to buy exclusively in in Truro, after which it will roll out across all Cornish Bakery stores.

Sara Castañeda of Rio Nuevo said: “We’re excited to talk about what makes chocolate so special and to engage in meaningful conversations. We can’t wait to meet everyone who stops by and bring a little more chocolate joy to the heart of Truro.”

Cornish Bakery managing director Mat Finch said: “We see an opportunity to develop closer partnerships with suppliers who share our values, have interesting stories to tell and produce beautiful products.

“This is the first time we have combined our mutual passion to create a takeover of this kind, and Rio Nuevo is the perfect fit. Their chocolate is a high-quality, premium product that we are incredibly proud to sell in all our bakeries.”

The Valentine’s Day event will run from from 6pm to 8pm and costs £25 per person, to include expert wine pairings and two desserts made on-site by an artisan chocolatier. Tickets can be purchased online at Eventbrite: search for Rio Nuevo x Cornish Bakery Chocolate & Wine Evening.
