THE Saints Trail between Chiverton bridge and Threemilestone is now open in full after several months of a temporary arrangement.

The multi-user path runs on the south side of the A390 from the new Chiverton bridge up to the West Langarth roundabout. Here it passes through the middle of the roundabout, using signalised crossings, to continue on the north side of the A390 to the Threemilestone roundabout.

Truro Cycling Campaign has advised users to take care crossing junctions and entrances, and to be aware of traffic entering or approaching them.

At the Penstraze junction, the road to and from Chacewater meets the A390, with vehicles approaching from many directions. There is a refuge in the middle of the junction to make this process easier.

Sarah Wetherill of Truro Cycling Campaign said a group would be riding the route soon to make a fuller assessment and making any resulting recommendations to the council.

The group has expressed concern about a bush that is limiting visibility at Penstraze junction, plant overgrowth on the section of path between Chiverton and Penstraze, and signage on private land partially obscuring the crossing of the entrance to the Rosedene business park opposite Britannia Lanes.

“Despite the issues that need to be addressed, this is a great step forward for cycling and active travel in the area,” said Ms Wetherill. “We look forward to it being a very popular route for the people of St Agnes and Truro alike.

“We are looking to organise an event in the spring to encourage use of the path as the weather gets warmer. In the meantime, we encourage as many people as possible to use the path now it’s open fully.”

Truro Cycling Campaign has also highlighted the need for a better connection through Threemilestone to the existing A390 shared path into Truro.
