The Mediaeval Baebes’ Christmas concert at Truro Cathedral will commence with a torchlit procession next Wednesday.
The ‘Lighting of the Chalice’ ceremony will start at 6.55pm at the library in Pydar Street, weaving its way to the cathedral with song and dance, pomp and pageantry.
Bearing aloft flaming torches, the Baebes will be joined by musicians playing drums, bagpipes, whistles and stringed instruments. Concertgoers are invited to join in or simply enjoy the illuminated spectacle before it enters the church ahead of a remarkable evening of festive music and entertainment.
The chalice plays an important role in many historic customs and traditions. Often viewed as a symbol of unity and shared experience, at Christmas time, it can also represent a welcome abundance when the days are at their shortest.
The concert will see the classical chart-topping choir perform Christmas carols and traditional folk songs alongside tracks from their latest seasonal album, MydWynter, and captivating storytelling.
The Mediaeval Baebes have released 11 studio albums and received awards for TV music contributions including for the The Virgin Queen on the BBC and the theme tune for the ITV serial Victoria.
Tickets cost £28.50 (adult) and £13 (child) and are available from www.mediaevalbaebes.com
