Work to upgrade gas pipes in the Kenwyn Street area of Truro will start on January 2.
Wales & West Utilities says the £130,000 project is essential to ensure gas is kept flowing safely to heat and power local homes and businesses. It will involve several stages of road closure, and will completed by May notwithstanding any engineering difficulties.
Kenwyn Street will be closed between the junctions of Little Castle Street and City Road from January 2 to 20.
From January 20 to February 20, Kenwyn Street will be closed between the junctions of Little Castle Street and Bosvigo Road, and City Road will be closed between the junctions of Kenwyn Street and Calenick Street.
From February 3 to March 3, closures will be in place between the junctions of Kenwyn Street and River Street and the junctions of Victoria Square and Little Castle Street.
Traffic management will be in place throughout.
Members of the local community were invited to a drop-in session in October to view plans and direct questions to project team members including Abby Smith, who is managing this gas pipe upgrade work on behalf of Wales & West Utilities.
“We know that working in areas like this is not ideal, but it really is essential to make sure we keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses in the area, and to ensure the gas network is ready to transport hydrogen and biomethane, so we can all play our part in a green future” she said.
“We’ll have a team of gas engineers on site throughout to make sure work is completed as safely and as quickly as possible while keeping disruption to a minimum.”
