A Newquay surf club is well on its way to sending team members to compete in a prestigious competition after raising more than £2,500 on Saturday.
Newquay Boardriders based at Fistral Beach staged a fundraising surf competition and presentation evening towards its participation in the Usher Cup World Club challenge at Snapper Rocks in Australia between January 17 to 19, 2025.

The money raised will help pay the air fares for the four competitors who have been selected to represent Newquay Boardriders, which include Lukas Skinner, Fynn Gillespie, Jowan Pegg, Lauren Sandland and team manager Mike Durkin.
The surf competition was held in powerful four to six foot waves.

A fundraising presentation evening was held at Fistral Beach Bar to announce the winners. Fynn was crowned the winner in the men’s category, Lauren in the women’s and Egor Harris in the over forties section.
A raffle helped boost the amount raised following the donation of prizes by individuals and businesses.
The evening also saw winners of the Northshore Pro Cadets Tour Championships presented with their prizes. The young surfers competed in three contests held throughout the year at Fistral and Great Western.
Hallie Bearman won the six and under girls comp and Parker Barber the six and under boys. Kaleia Peres won the eight and under girls category and Leven Skinner the eight and under boys.
Arabella Peres was awarded first place in the 10 and under girls and Joshi Coumbes the 10 and under boys.
Ellie Hickie won the 12 and under girls section and Jenson Martin the 12 and under boys.
Newquay Boardriders chairman Eddee ‘Edward’ Wilson said: “What an awesome day, waves, weather, barbecue, raffle, party, generations of friends and families all came together for not only the end of season thank yous but to help us raise much needed funds.
“Without the support of the town we would never be able to pull this off, but we are hitting it out the park.
“I’m so proud of Newquay Boardriders and where its come from and what it means to so many of its members. Bring on 2025. It’s going to be another year of crazy epic good times.

“No judgement, no pressure, just good times. It’s not something people recognise about our love of the ocean. But it’s a key factor in making the magic happen.
