St Ives Tennis Club has raised £700 for Cornwall Air Ambulance by staging the town’s first pickleball tournament.
Thirty two members and guests took part in Sunday’s initial pickleball event following this year’s upgrading of the club’s junior short tennis court which included providing line markings for the new sport. A hybrid of tennis, badminton and table tennis, pickleball is a fun, exciting game for people of all ages and abilities.
The fun knockout tournament proved pretty competitive with Matt Trevorrow and Aimee Hall beating fellow St Ives club member Christian Guerrini and visitor Jackie Craven, from Torquay, in the final.
A total of £350 was raised from entry fees, a barbecue lunch, donations and a bring and buy stall with the club fund-matching that amount with a further £350 donation.
