Cornwall Cricket League County Division One round-up – Saturday, July 27

SRI Lankan pro Ravi Karunarathna took 6-25 as leaders Grampound Road earned a 75-run success over Wadebridge Seconds.

The Road’s total of 216-8 was a real team effort as five batsmen passed 20.

Openers Jack Mingo and Alex Lean (27) added 59, but the visitors fought back as the Road slipped to 120-4 despite 37 from Mingo and 24 from Chris Roberts.

But Harry Gregory (49), Karunarathna (27) and Chris Willett (17no) pushed on despite Ollie Bate (2-38), George Wilkinson (2-26) and Ross McLachlan (2-34) sharing six victims.

Wadebridge were going well at 53-1 through Sam Richards (22) and Ross McLachlan (28), before Karunarathna took four wickets in just ten runs.

Rob Centini and Charlie Ellis combined to add 45 before three wickets fell for zero runs on 108.

They got up to 141 thanks to Charlie Hawken’s unbeaten 21. Alex Lean took 3-14.

Paul are second after an easy seven-wicket success over Camborne Seconds at Hutchens Park.

Camborne’s innings never really got going after an opening stand of 30, as only Giles Head (25) and Nigel Endean (21) passed twenty as they were dismissed for 143.

Will Trenoweth claimed 3-21 while Joe Sharp (2-55) and Matt Skewes (2-16) shared four wickets.

The chase was a routine affair as Ross Williams (68) and Kameron Collins (44) put on 99 for the second wicket.

Beacon are up to third after a 68-run success at Roche.

Sam James made 74 in their 255-7, before the hosts mustered 187 in reply.

Hayle dismantled bottom side Penzance Seconds by seven wickets at The Towans.

After choosing to field, opening bowlers Matt Lello (3-15) and James Franklin (3-22) shared six wickets in unchanged ten-over spells.

Skipper Tom Sharp then turned to spinners Max Jenkin and Matt Jacka with the latter taking 4-10 as the visitors were dismissed for just 69 in 37.1 overs.

Elliott Trotman (19), Louis Trotman (16) and Nic Harper (11) all reached double figures.

Hayle then gave Tony Riggall and Ty Hendra some batting practice, and they made 15 and 25 respectively as the target was reached after 15 overs.

Jenson Devine, Louis Trotman and Tilly Eldridge each took a wicket.

Newquay stay fifth despite a six-wicket reversal at the hands of Falmouth.

Newquay were far from full strength and slipped to 46-3.

That soon became 74-5 before Mike Harding (58) and Callan Jenkin (23) combined for stand of 43.

But once Harding was dismissed by Isaac Hurtel-Hymans at 119, the last four wickets added just 24 as spinner Adrian Noott took 3-6 from 6.5 overs.

All six of the Falmouth attack were in the wickets, including two apiece for Duncan Ayres (2-28) and Perran Burley (2-29).

James Tomlinson made 56 not in a comfortable chase.

St Erme won by seven runs at Mullion in a superb contest at Garro Lane.

Despite losing the dangerous Kyle Van Rooyen for just six, St Erme progressed well through Jack Evans and Daniel Foulds who made 28 apiece.

They soon slipped to 99-5, but contributions from Alfie Tangye (19) and Spencer Wilcock (32) got them up to 160 all out.

James Dark was the pick with 4-17.

Mullion’s reply started well as openers Michael Blanks (20) and Tom Peterken (40) added 33, but when the latter departed to Shane Tangye (3-38) it was 89-5.

Max Roberts (19) and Matthew Turner (15) rebuilt the innings with a stand of 34, but the visitors fought back and dismissed the Seagulls with two balls to spare despite 17 not out from Martin Duck.

Dylan Smith (2-36) and Callum Edgcombe (2-20) shared four wickets.
