ECB CORNWALL PREMIER LEAGUE (SATURDAY)
Werrington v Truro
TRURO were well beaten by seven wickets at bottom four side Werrington on Saturday as their lead over bottom side Camborne was reduced to 23 points.
The city club headed east to the picturesque Ladycross ground without Jaco Van Greunen and former county all-rounder Rob Harrison, although Pakistani pro Amir Yamin was available again after representing his country in the World Championship of Legends T20 tournament in Birmingham.
Werrington chose to field, and although Truro openers Dan Phillips and brother Harry added 20, Dan was soon caught by Ryan Pooley for three off Sam Hockin.
Hockin bowled 18 wides but his spell of 5-53 proved decisive.
He bowled skipper Charlie Kent third ball as they slipped to 20-2.
Harry Phillips was joined by Yamin (11) and they added 30 before the latter picked out Jordan Duke off Hockin.
Wickets then continued to tumble.
Harry Phillips edged Dan Barnard behind for 24 before Hockin picked up his five-fer.
He bowled Adam Price for four, before he had Conway Gilbert caught by Pooley for a ten-ball duck (65-6).
Ted Phillips and Neil Ivamy put on 32, but both fell within 12 runs of each other to Mark Taskis, Phillips making 31.
At 109-8, the writing was on the wall, but youngsters Freddie Bose and Jack Ivamy had other ideas as they put on 54.
Ivamy eventually went for 18 to Adam Hodgson who had Bose caught by Thulina Dilshan for 33 as the end came at 166.
Truro needed early wickets, but it didn’t really happen.
Yamin took out Sam Hockin for ten, before Nick Lawson (21) and Adam Hodgson (54no) added 40.
Lawson was bowled by spinner Adam Price, but Hodgson shared further stands with Dilshan (42) and Mark Gribble (29no) as the winning runs came in the 40th over.
