MOUSEHOLE set up a home tie with Bristol Manor Farm in the third qualifying round of the FA Trophy on Saturday, October 5 after seeing off league and Cornish rivals Falmouth Town at Trungle Parc.
Mousehole thought their run for the season was over having lost on penalties at Bashley in the previous round, but after the FA ordered a replay in West Cornwall due to an admin error from the hosts, they made it through.
Falmouth, who had seen off fellow Southern League Division One South outfit Cinderford Town to get through, headed west in good form themselves and looking to build on a gritty 1-0 victory over Thatcham Town a week earlier.
In front of a sizeable crowd of 371, boosted significantly by another large away support, it was Falmouth who took a fourth minute lead.Andrew Elcock’s free-kick to the far post was put back across goal by Bradley Leivers, and former Camelford attacker Cam Hutchison placed a shot past Ollie Chenoweth.
But Mousehole are strongly tipped for another promotion push, and levelled three minutes later.
Impressive winger Torin Ntege sent over a cross for former Town favourite Tim Nixon to beat Morgan Coxhead.
Mousehole’s midfield was running the show despite Falmouth’s best efforts, although when Town did get the ball they had their moments.
But with just a minute of the half remaining the home side were awarded a penalty when Ntege was brought down. The referee awarded a free-kick but the linesman felt otherwise and up stepped left-back Jordan Hackett to do the rest.
Nixon gave the Seagulls breathing space four minutes after the restart when he slotted in Tallan Mitchell’s header back across goal, and despite chances at both ends, it remained 3-1.
The third Cornish team in the Southern League Division One South – high-flying Helston Athletic – had the weekend off.
