TRURO-BASED brothers Isaac and Logan Murray have both been selected for the next stage of the national Find Your Greatness campaign to find Olympic stars of the future.

Thousands of athletes initially applied for consideration, with 700 chosen to compete at various venues across the UK in December. Based on the scores achieved, Logan has moved onto the next level of the selection process in shooting and Isaac for rowing and skeleton, the winter sliding sport.

Isaac won the U23 Irish national championships in discus and is being considered by the Irish dodgeball team for the European Championships in June.

Both boys are ranked number one for discus nationally – Isaac in Ireland and Logan in England.

Their parents, Michelle and Steve, couldn’t be prouder. The couple have four children – Maiya-Jade, 25, Tommy, 23, Isaac, 21 and Logan, 16 – and all have been encouraged to make the most of their individual talents.

In the case of Isaac and Logan, that has meant 2,500 miles of travelling last year alone to competitions – a big expense that Michelle says makes the GLL Sports Foundation (GSF) awards that the brothers have benefited from, even more vital.

“The annual awards have helped so much. I honestly don’t believe the boys would have achieved what they have without them. Isaac is studying sports science at Nottingham University and has free membership to any of GLL’s 240 leisure centres to train, and Logan wouldn’t be where he is now without the support he gets from GLL to buy equipment and access Better gyms free throughout Cornwall and the rest of the country.”

Logan lives with autism and is currently learning independence skills at Truro College. Once reluctant to take part in any physical activity, he was introduced to long jump at Cornwall Athletics Academy, before moving on to throwing the discus and shot put.

Now a very successful 400-metre sprinter too, Logan has won many national titles and represented England and Team Atlanta in the UK School Games. He has also been selected for the Youth Talent Programme and Para Academy by England Athletics.

“Logan has found himself in sport,” said Michelle. “Like Isaac, he has won countless medals and trophies – most recently the Mike Hitchens Shield at the Cornwall Athletics Academy awards last week.”

Operating under the Better brand, GLL is the not-for-profit social enterprise that runs nine leisure centres in Cornwall on behalf of the council. In 2024, GSF awards worth nearly £70,000 were given to 116 Cornish athletes – Logan and Isaac amongst them.

“It’s a great scheme and I can’t recommend applying highly enough,” said Michelle.
