SWPL PREMIER WEST (WEDNESDAY)
Newquay 2 Truro City Reserves 0
A CROWD of 294 was in attendance as Callam Mconie’s late double saw of a resolute Truro City Reserves 2-0.
Truro brought a very youthful side to Mount Wise which showed in their enthusiasm and speed as the match began, Newquay however controlled the ball and played their passing game to good effect winning a number of corners in the first 15 minutes.
Newquay continued to play their controlled passing game, moving the ball from defence through the midfield and on to the wingers, giving Truro little of the ball.
The Peppermints dominated throughout the first half with shots on goal going just by the post or a defender blocking the effort, while Truro's keeper Morgan Jones made some good saves.
The second half saw Newquay come out with the same intensity, wanting to move the ball about the pitch to stretch the Truro players and create chances.
Again Newquay dominated the game and the chances came often to the forwards who again were thwarted by defenders blocking shots or Jones pushing the ball out for a corner.
The breakthrough for Newquay's first goal came late on in the game with ten minutes of normal time to go when Aaron Dilley put the ball over the left-back’s head for Tom Shepherd to run onto. He turned back inside and laid the ball at the feet of Mconie who turned his defender and placed the ball past the keeper.
The Peppermints’ second goal came from Brodie Cole's kick to midfield, two touches from the midfielders and then the ball was played over the defence for Mconie to run onto and volley into the Truro goal, giving Jones little chance of stopping the powerful shot.
Newquay then saw the game out comfortably for a deserved three points.
