SWPL PREMIER WEST (WEDNESDAY)
Truro City Reserves 5 Wendron United 4
THE first floodlit fixture at the new Truro City Stadium proved worthy of the occasion on Wednesday night as Truro City Reserves won a nine-goal thriller against Wendron United.
The Dron made the short trip with a perfect record bar a surprise 2-1 defeat to Penzance, and took the lead after just three minutes through the in-form Ryan Reeve before the even more prolific Brodie Kemp doubled the advantage on 19 minutes.
But City improved markedly and pulled one back on 31 minutes through Ben Shaw, moments after he shot narrowly wide.
And within four minutes it was all square as good play between Alfie Flack and Liam Higgins ended with the latter beating Zach Telling.
Truro introduced Mykey Davies and Owen Rosevear at the break in place of Scott Burgess and Pharrell Johnson, and within two minutes they were celebrating once more as Shaw slotted in his second.
Wendron are the highest scoring team in the division so far and were level just before the hour as although Morgan Jones made a superb save, the ball fell to Reeve who made no mistake.
The 278 crowd were seeing a Step Six classic, and two minutes later the Dron went back in front with Reeve completing his hat-trick.
But Truro, who had beaten Wadebridge Town 3-2 away from home four days earlier, battled back again to win it.
Moments after Jones denied the Dron a fifth, a brilliant solo run from Liam Higgins saw him square to sub Rhys Simmonds for a tap-in on 64 minutes.
With nearly half an hour to play the scoreline could have been anything, but just as it looked like it may end 4-4, the Tinners won it with three minutes of normal time remaining as Simmonds grabbed his second.
