BOXING

St Columb Boxing Club

ST COLUMB’S young prospect Archie Scott had an invite to box Finley Haskins on the Downend ABC show near Bristol earlier this month, writes Paul Doust.

Archie had a good first round claiming the centre of the ring and making his opponent pay with scoring shots as he tried to take the spot for himself.

Finley came out stronger at the start of the second stanza, but was just met with Archie's counter punches.

As they reached the middle of the round, Archie landed a great three-punch combination which which caused the referee to close in and take a look at the Downend boxer.

But before the referee had time to react, Finley's coach threw in the towel to put an end to the bout.

Lead coach Charlie Scott was so proud of his son, saying the six-hour round trip is so worth it when when he performs like that.

Archie’s third win from as many bouts had spectators telling him how well he boxed.

UNSURPRISINGLY the poor weather throughout the third week of November leading up to Storm Bert meant a lack of golf was played at Newquay.

No men’s or ladies’ competitions were held although the ladies’ presentation and AGM did take place.
