FOLLOWING the postponement of the Turkey Trot on Saturday, December 14 because of Storm Darragh, a few intrepid souls ventured out the following day for the Sunday Stableford.
Dave Parsall scored 28 points over 14 holes to win by a point from Darren Carhart in second place. Gary Sullivan was third with 26 points and Peter Setchell registered the only two of the day.
Tuesday, December 17 saw the seniors play a two-man scramble which was won by Tony Kellow and Michael Rooney with a nett 63, a stroke clear of Mike Partridge with Gary Sullivan and Mike Hackett with Keith Boulton in second and third on countback. Two twos were recorded.
The ladies were out to play the next day (Wednesday) for a Better-Ball on the back nine holes where Jenny Botto and Julie Bradbury scored 19 points to win by a point from Carol Fitzhenry and Annette Ewings. Third place went to Bev Sullivan and Roma Cook with 17 points.
The men, meanwhile, were in Winter League mode where maximum league points went to Gary Sullivan with a nett 64 and also the lowest gross score of 73. Michael Rooney was next in line with a nett 66, two ahead of Alan Crawford in third.
Fourth, a stroke back, was Peter Bradbury with Derek Williams and Jim Oliver in fifth and sixth with 72 on countback. There were no twos again so the pot rolled over a week.
The men's AGM was held on the Wednesday night at the clubhouse with captain Michael Rooney ending his four-year tenure and introducing his successor Simon Hartley who, in turn revealed his choice of vice-captain, Karl Rance.
Steve Arthur and Peter Bradbury were re-elected unopposed in their respective posts. Hartley and Rance will take up their roles from January 1.
The final of the seniors knockout competition, The Lifeboat Pairs, was held on Thursday, December 12 with the defending champions holding off a spirited challenge from their opponents but, eventually, Barry Carhart and Vince Dymock retained their title by a one-hole margin from Ron May and Duncan Bruce.
The seniors held their Winter Salver on the Friday over nine holes spread across the whole course where Mike Partridge scored 19 points to win overall from Division One winner Alan Crawford whose 18 points were the best on countback of five players, including second-placed Rob Maycock.
Division Two was headed by Martin Drew who was second overall with 19 points from, a point back, Bob Hartnoll in second place. Two twos were recorded.
The Turkey Trot, postponed from last week, was played out on Saturday, December 14 with winner Tony Kellow scoring 36 points, two clear of five players on 34, in order, Peter Bradbury, Dave Sweet, Karl Rance and Danny Lawer, with Mike Partridge the unlucky one to miss out on a main prize although he was compensated with nearest-the-pin prizes on the eighth and the 13th (in two).
Other ‘Nearest to the Pin’ awards went to Karl Rance (3rd), Peter Taylor (11th), Peter Fox (12th), Darren Carhart (15th) and Danny Lawer (16th) with Peter Fox claiming the longest drive on the 18th. Four twos were recorded.
In the ladies’ Turkey Trot, Bev Sullivan led the way with 30 points with Carol Fitzhenry and Teresa Phillips having best front and back nines respectively.
Lady captain Jackie Oliver and Julie Bradbury got the nearest-the-pin prizes.
