Western League Premier Division round-up – Saturday, November 2
ST BLAZEY picked up a crucial point in their quest to avoid relegation on Saturday as they held Paulton Rovers to a 1-1 draw at Blaise Park.
Blazey, who saw a man of the match performance from midfielder Sam Clifton, took an eighth minute lead through striker Jacob Rowe before the Somerset visitors equalised 11 minutes thanks to sub Leo Eglin.
The point was enough to move up to third bottom as Torpoint Athletic were beaten 2-1 at Brislington.
Saltash United were left frustrated as they made it just one win at home from their first ten league games as Wellington made it six straight victories at Kimberley Stadium.
The Tangerines led inside three minutes via striker Mark Cornish before Jake Quick made it 2-0 in first half injury-time.
St Austell had the afternoon off after their recent good form and return tonight (Wednesday) with a Cornwall Senior Cup tie at home to Torpoint. Blazey welcome one-league higher Mousehole in the same competition at the same time.
Saturday’s action sees St Austell visit Andover New Street in the FA Vase, while Blazey entertain Oldland Abbotonians in a crunch league clash.
SWPL Premier West round-up – Saturday, November 2
LEADERS Newquay enjoyed a perfect weekend as not only did they win the local derby at Wadebridge Town on Saturday, but much-fancied Liskeard Athletic were beaten at Wendron United who moved up to second.
The Blues had seemingly clicked into form in recent weeks, and led 1-0 at the break through Cam Patterson.
Ryan Reeve brought the Dron level on 52 minutes before James Lorenz (69) slotted in a rebound.
Home debutant Josiah Plummer made it 2-2 on 82 minutes before a remarkable finish saw Wendron score three times.
Charlie Edney got two, the first of which came after the away side lost possession in their final third, with Josh Wood adding the last.
Liskeard are now fourth, three points behind Newquay having played a game more.
Newquay’s afternoon, which saw striker Jack Bray-Evans return after injury off the bench, started well and they took the lead in the 26th minute as Coen Briggs played in the in-form Louis Price who slotted past Rob Rosevear.
Wadebridge equalised two minutes before the break when Tom Harris’ cross found Kyle Flew who made no mistake, but almost straight from the restart Newquay were back ahead, again Price the scorer after being played in by Aaron Dilley.
Millbrook continue to plug away despite sitting second bottom, and they were beaten 3-1 by visiting Penzance at Jenkins Park.
The Brook, who recently signed striker Lee Robinson from Callington Town, scored 15 minutes in through Jay Boyle and had chances throughout, but Jacob Trudgeon, Lewis Caspall and Curtis Smith ensured the points headed back west.
Sticker drew 1-1 at Bude Town with Haiden Chapman putting the visitors in front on the 81st minute, while Truro City Reserves struck twice in the final 15 minutes through Ben Shaw and Jack Bowyer to see off Holsworthy 2-1 at the Truro City Stadium.
Bodmin Town are enjoying a fine run in the FA Vase, but their Walter C Parson SWPL League Cup journey is over for another season after losing 3-2 to Teignmouth at Priory Park.
Town, who welcome Wells City on Saturday as they look to continue their Vase journey (3pm), fell behind 22 minutes in, but levelled just before the break.
Bodmin went ahead but two goals late on, the last of which came from Hayden Roe at the start of stoppage time, sent the Teigns through.
