TWENTY-FOUR players competed for the Boynton Trophy at Bethel Social Club on Saturday, April 5 with Justin Oxenham edging Gary Spencer 3-2 to take the title.
Roger Smithson’s defeat of Matt Green and Gary Spencer’s fine 53 break were the highlights of the first-round.
The second-round got underway with Gavin Dyche pipping Darren Lock by a single point, Josh Bristow beating Keith Moore on the black and Andrew Best knocking in a 31 break as he saw off Dave Tregale.
Spencer continued his fine form with a break of 48 as progressed into the last four, as did Gavin Dyche and Jason Pascoe.
Justin Oxenham beat his Bugle A team-mate Andrew Best in the quarter-final to progress, that despite Best’s 41 break.
The semi-finals produced contrasting games as Dyche lost to Spencer on the black, while Oxenham eased to victory over Pascoe.
The final, which saw Oxenham have a +30 start, started with Spencer having a comfortable lead, but as the frame progressed the lead was reduced.
Eventually, Oxenham held his nerve to pot the pink and black and lift the trophy.
