MOVING along the coast of St Ives Bay, today we arrive at Carbis Bay as the Voice continues its serialisation of the travel book, Cornwall Favourites For One And All!: A Quick Guide To Good Places To Visit Across The County.

Voice journalist Andrew Townsend, the author of the book, says: “Our lovely tour around Cornwall has recently seen us visiting Land’s End, Sennen Cove, Cape Cornwall, the Tin Coast and St Ives. Before that, we had been making our way along the south coast of the county, in the latter stages exploring Mousehole and Porthcurno.

“For the latest part of the tour, we are heading along the extensive northern coast of Cornwall.”

Carbis Bay, the smaller neighbour to St Ives, rose to prominence in 2021 when it was chosen as the location for a meeting of world leaders at a G7 Summit.

Long before the world’s eyes settled on Carbis Bay, it was already well-known for its lovely sandy beach and its views across the deep blue St Ives Bay.

The St Ives branchline train, which links with the mainline at St Erth, stops at Carbis Bay.

The train also serves the village of Lelant beside the Hayle estuary. A pleasant walk can be had from the centre of Lelant out past the West Cornwall Golf Club, which enjoys a tremendous outlook over the bay, to Porthkidney Sands.

The beach, backed by sand dunes, is absolutely enormous when the tide is out and is one of the beaches in West Cornwall that allows dogs all year round.

Next time, we will be in historic Hayle, the town’s name meaning estuary in Cornish.

Our extensive tour around Cornwall, visiting well-known spots but also lesser-known locations, offers something for everyone, from sandy beaches, remote moorland, storm-beaten cliffs and scenic rivers to historic towns, pretty villages, mining relics and visitor attractions.
