A young Mevagissey badminton player has become a county champion at the first attempt.

Dixie Johnson, aged 10, has won the girls under 11 category at the Cornwall Youth Badminton Championships held at Treviglas Academy.

She also came runner up in the girls doubles and runner up in mixed doubles.

Now Dixie has become the under 11s champion of Cornwall she has her sights set on representing England and competing in the Olympics in the future.

Dixie trains at St Austell Bay Badminton Club & Mevagissey Activity Centre and she is also registered with Badminton England.

Father Sean said: “Dixie has worked many hours this year at her local club, we could not be prouder, she is a natural talent.

"Thanks also to her head coach Jeremy at St.Austell Bay Badminton club who has been amazing."
