A VAN fire that occurred in the middle of the night in St Austell is being treated as suspected arson.
The incident in Trevarthian Road was reported at just before 3am on Sunday.
A fire crew from St Austell Community Fire Station went to the blaze following numerous 999 calls about a van being ablaze near a building.
The firefighters, some wearing breathing apparatus, used a hosereel jet to extinguish the fire.
A spokesperson for Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service said: “Arson is suspected as the cause of the fire and Devon and Cornwall Police have been informed.
“Staff from Cornwall Council’s highways department also attended to clear-up a fuel spillage and broken glass, this being a hazard to pedestrians on a main route into the town.
“If anyone has information as to who may have started this fire, please contact Devon and Cornwall Police, quoting log number 142 of 05/05/2024.”
In a separate incident, firefighters attended a car fire on the B3274 at Roche at lunchtime on Friday.
A crew from Bodmin went to the incident and found the car was well alight.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used two hosereels to extinguish the blaze. The crew also used an oil spill kit on a diesel spill.
