Members of the Rotary Club of Truro Boscawen staged a special concert raising over £1,000 for Truro Foodbank.
The charity performance was organised after members heard of the serious challenges facing the charity, which is experiencing high demand at the same time as a drop in donations, forcing it to meet the monthly shortfall from its own financial reserves.
More than 100 people came to Truro School’s chapel to hear the Celtic Male Ensemble perform a programme of songs in a variety of genres, from Gershwin to Queen via Les Miserables, under the baton of musical director Alastair Taylor.
Truro School students also drew warm applause for their musical contributions. All were finalists in the school’s own music competition, with solo and ensemble pieces ranging from Purcell and Grieg to Pearl Jam and Keane, and an excellent version of The Killers’ Human.
The evening raised £1,100. “This is a very worthwhile cause that helps some of the most vulnerable in our society,” said organiser and RotaryClub member Mike Grundy.
Rotary Club president Ed Hallett expressed thanks to all who had contributed to making the event a success, adding: “It was a superb evening of entertainment.”
