Following a six-week rugby coaching programme delivered to eight primary schools in the Truro area, a festival was held last week Truro RFC.
Organised by Cornish Pirates’ community engagement manager Sam Teasdale, support was given by the Championship club’s players AJ Cant, Ruaridh Dawson, Joe Elderkin, and Carwyn Penny.
The schools participating in the event were Archbishop Benson, Blackwater, Chacewater, Mithian, St Agnes Academy, St Mary’s (Truro), Threemilestone, and Truro Learning Academy.
Matt Howes, assistant headteacher at St Agnes Academy, said: “All of us at St Agnes Academy had a great time.
“We loved having Sam in teaching them rugby and being given the opportunity to meet the players from the Cornish Pirates.
“For 10 of our 15 children it was their first competitive rugby event, which they thoroughly enjoyed, so I am sure it won’t be their last.”
