A Truro company’s product has topped the Innovative Use of Artificial Intelligence in Gaming category at the prestigious National AI Awards.

PlayerXP is developed by Hertzian, a business incubator operated by the University of Plymouth and based at the Health and Wellbeing Innovation Centre in Truro.

The platform collects, analyses, and interprets vast amounts of gaming player feedback, allowing developers to make informed decisions that directly impact gameplay and player satisfaction.

The team behind PlayerXP analysed player data to reveal real-time sentiment analysis. The AI identified growing frustration around a new feature, enabling the development team to react promptly and resolve the issue within days. Judges noted that player sentiment recovered quickly and the new feature was rebalanced, leading to a 24-hour turnaround on bugs identified in the game.

Hertzian chief exeutive CEO Christopher Weavill said: “Our win is a milestone, but it’s just the beginning. AI is transforming the way developers build, launch, and maintain their games. We’re committed to staying at the forefront of this revolution, providing tools that empower developers to create games that players love.

“We are committed to being the voice of the player and supporting the new independent games coming up, so stay tuned for an exciting new product launch to help indie studios maximise their data and help their game succeed.”

Matt Harrington, head of Cornwall Innovation Centres in Truro, Pool and Penryn, added: “Part of our ethos is to help small businesses to thrive, and Hertzian AI is a shining example of how our business support and flexibility can help companies to grow.”
