A MAJOR Newquay road reopened on Monday after four months, which had caused extensive traffic disruption during its closure.

The A392 between Treloggan and Trevemper roundabouts was shut on October 1 to improve the route as part of the Treveth development at Trevithick Manor Farm.

The works have included creating a new signalised junction with pedestrian crossing points off the A392 whilst the carriageway was also realigned.

The carriageway from Treloggan roundabout used to go straight through to the Trevemper roundabout but now sweeps to the right and meets up with the turning into the Walker development at Trevemper.

Additional work undertaken whilst the A392 was shut included new drainage, utilities installed, kerbing and street lighting installed as well as a final resurfacing and road markings.

Motorists have experienced traffic delays on the A392 due to a build up of traffic as a diversion was put in place along Gannel Road and Treloggan Road.

Traffic congestion has been exasperated in Newquay by the three way traffic lights installed at Narrowcliff whilst Cormac is widening the walking and cycle shared use path, beginning at the junction of Edgecumbe Avenue to The Barrowfields as part of the Mid Cornwall Metro scheme.
