THERE is due to be traffic disruption when one of Newquay’s busiest roads is closed for three days for repairs to be carried out on a sink hole that appeared during Boardmasters.

Cliff Road will be closed between December 9 and 11 to provide a long-term repair to the drain that collapsed outside Burger King.

Newquay BID manager Mark Warren said: “Back in August right in the middle of Boardmasters a drain collapsed on Cliff Road.

“An emergency repair was undertaken but there was always a plan to return to do a larger, long-term repair. To that end, Cliff Road will be closed between December 9 and 11 for South West Water to repair the drain and the road. “This repair simply has to be done but earlier this year. I fought for it to be done at the quietest time of the year and so that is what is happening.

“The closure itself will be limited to one small area, with all other routes in the vicinity open. All businesses in the area remain open so please continue to support them.”

A spokesperson added: “These are planned works and we can't do anything about the timings, other than give people as much warning as possible.”
