A leading resin bound installer based in Newquay which has become a national success story is celebrating 20 years in business.
Oltco in Pargolla Road was established in 2004 by Tom Stringer to provide top-tier, anti-slip flooring solutions for homes and businesses.
He was joined by good friend John Pearce as co-director at Oltco, united by their shared vision of building a value-led business.
Fast forward to 2024, what began as a local business flourished into a national success story.
Oltco now operates on a national scale with over 50 franchises across the UK and Channel Islands following the launch of its franchise model in 2019, serving sectors including residential, commercial, hospitality and education. In just three years, Oltco hit its 50th franchise mark, a huge milestone for the business, cementing Oltco’s status as an industry leader.
Oltco’s work can be seen at some of the UK’s leading and most iconic hotels and attractions, including the award-winning Carbis Bay Estate, Trevornick Holiday Park and the renowned Eden Project.
Over the past 20 years, Oltco has gone from strength to strength, gaining national recognition through extensive press coverage and an appearance on the nationally loved TV show, Grand Designs.
Oltco expanded its offerings in 2019 by introducing Recycle Bound, an innovative solution designed by Tom and John in response to the growing plastic waste problem they witnessed in Cornwall.
Recycle Bound is the world’s first resin solution made using a mixture of stone and recycled waste plastic.
The groundbreaking solution has been widely recognised, winning ‘product of the tear’ at the Cornwall Business Awards and runner-up for ‘recycled product of the year’ at the National Recycling Awards.
Oltco was also named a ‘sustainability warrior’ at the 2021 British Franchise Awards for its commitment to eco-friendly solutions through its Recycle Bound and Recycle Base products.
Oltco reached another milestone in 2023 by recycling the equivalent of 500 million plastic straws through Recycle Bound, showing the business’ dedication to environmental sustainability. The eco-friendly solution has been installed in both residential and commercial properties across Cornwall and the UK, offering clients a highly sustainable, durable and visually appealing result.
Tom said: “We are incredibly proud to be celebrating 20 years of Oltco. This is where our journey began, and it’s amazing to see how far the business has come and all that we have achieved, from featuring on national television to designing a world-first revolutionary product. It is an honour to lead such an amazing team, and I look forward to continuing to drive Oltco's success and helping clients transform their properties in the years to come.”
John added: “As we celebrate Oltco Cornwall’s 20th anniversary, I’m incredibly proud of how far the business has come since our humble beginnings.
“One of our proudest achievements has been the creation of Recycle Bound and seeing it reach the milestone of recycling 500 million plastic straws is a true testament to the difference we aim to make to the environment.
“Moving forward, we remain committed to pushing boundaries, creating job opportunities, and continuing our work to protect the planet, one driveway at a time.”
