Police investigating a road traffic collision near St Austell which left a cyclist with serious injuries are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
Officers were called at around 9.35am on Saturday to reports of a pedal cyclist who had been struck by a vehicle on an unnamed road near Biscovey Football Club, Starrick Moor.
The cyclist, a 17-year-old male, sustained serious injuries and remains in hospital. It was reported that the collision involved a Black Range Rover which didn’t stop at the scene.
The road was closed while an investigation was carried out at the scene. Following enquiries, a Range Rover fitting the description was located.
A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesperson said: “A 55-year-old man from the St Austell area has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, failingto stop after a road accident and failing to report that accident.
“He has been released on bail, pending further enquiries. He is due to answer bail on Thursday, October 5.”
