Around 40 people from the Falmouth and Gwennap Methodist Circuit stood on the grassy tiers at the historic Gwennap Pit at sunrise on Easter Day to celebrate the risen Christ.

With a background of bird song the Rev Jonathan Froggatt, superintendent minister, and the Rev Elizabeth Harris led a short service at which Communion was observed.

There were Bible readings and a wooden cross had been erected earlier in the week and partially decorated with flowers.

More flowers were added during the service and people were encouraged to visit again over the coming days to reflect and to add some more flowers if they wished. The rain held off and the service concluded with a rousing rendition of ‘Thine be the Glory.’

As the light dawned, tea, coffee and hot cross buns were served in the Visitor Centre before people left to attend services in their own chapels across the circuit.
