Singers from across Cornwall are invited to take part in a ‘Come & Sing’ workshop and performance of Mozart’s Requiem in Truro Cathedral.
The event, on Sunday, June 11, is a collaboration between Truro Choral Society and Truro School.
The event will be led by Martin Palmer, director of music at both Truro Choral Society and Truro School, and accompanied by a chamber orchestra and soloists from Truro School.
The workshop runs from 1pm to 3pm with a performance from 6pm, and an optional lecture on Mozart by Cornish composer Russell Pascoe at 3.15pm in the Cathedral Chapter House.
Truro Choral Society is one of Cornwall’s largest with around 120 members. Over the last few years, Martin has conducted them in works including Orff’s Carmina Burana, Handel’s Messiah, Mendelssohn’s Elijah and Mozart’s Requiem.
“Singing alongside a large choir in the cathedral is an absolutely breathtaking experience and we look forward to seeing many new faces at this event,” said Martin.
“Singers of all levels of experience are welcome to attend, and with 100 already signed up, it is set to be a memorable occasion.
Participation (workshop and performance) is £16 in advance by June 10, or £18 on the door.
The event is free for under-19s and students in full-time education (please book in advance). Singers must bring their own score. In addition, the choir’s Tuesday evening practices on May 30 and June 6 are open to those who have booked.
Audience tickets for the performance cost £5 (free for u19s and full-time students), and will be available on the door from 5.15pm.
