DOG owners are being urged to keep their pet on a lead around the coastline after a dog died falling from the cliff at Lusty Glaze Beach.

Newquay Coastguard Search and Rescue Team attended the incident on Monday, August 19, at 8.30am.

The team carried out an extensive search following reports a dog had fallen off the Glendorgal Headland. No trace was found of the dog, which is presumed to have died.

A spokesperson for Newquay Coastguard said: “The team was tasked to Lusty Glaze after reports of a dog falling off the cliff on the Glendorgal headland.

“After receiving eyewitness reports and carrying out an intensive search, and after no trace has been found, the dog is now unfortunately presumed deceased.

“We would like to thank Lusty Glaze Beach for all their assistance during the incident. “The team would like to take the opportunity to remind all of the importance of keeping your dog on a leash whilst walking the coast path no matter how well behaved, they are.”

A resident added: “If you’re walking your dog near a cliff, please be extra careful.

“All it takes is for them to chase a bird and they could disappear in an instant.”
