The Roseland Academy has been graded ‘Outstanding’ in its latest Ofsted inspection.

This rating makes it the first secondary school in Cornwall to be judged Outstanding under the new framework and the only Cornish secondary to have maintained this grade in two inspections running.

The Roseland Academy was first awarded an Outstanding grade in 2017 and retained it following an inspection at the end of May.

The report highlights the school’s core values and ethos, stating: “The Roseland Academy provides pupils with an outstanding education. The trust values of kindness, responsibility, and ambition are reinforced in all areas of school life.

“Pupils are known as individuals, each contributing to the school community. They are self-motivated, curious, and engaged learners. The school has high expectations for behaviour and pupils rise to meet these.”

The report praises “warm and mutually respectful” relationships between adults and pupils, pinpoints the ambitious curriculum the school offers its students and recognises the expertise of staff who deliver it.

Headteacher Richard Clarke said: "We are incredibly proud to have received this Outstanding rating from Ofsted. This grading is a testament to the exceptional dedication and hard work of our staff, the perseverance and excellence of our students, and the support of our community.

“It is great to have this formally recognised in an inspection, and the wording of the report recognises how everyone plays a part in our school culture.

To mark the occasion, assemblies were held for all year groups to express gratitude to the students for their contribution to maintaining such high standards.

Special recognition was given to the Year 11 students for their exemplary behaviour and for serving as role models for the younger students. Additionally, the entire school came together on the school field to form a heart shape, symbolising the school's core values.

The Roseland Academy has 656 students and is part of The Roseland Trust, which has four other schools in Cornwall. Trust CEO Christopher Challis said: "This recognition is a reflection of the unwavering commitment and excellence displayed by everyone at The Roseland Academy. A report of this nature that captures the spirit of the Roseland is truly amazing."
