Police carried out an operation in Penzance as part of the national Christmas drink and drug driving campaign on Friday night.

Penzance Neighbourhood Policing Team and Hayle officers conducted Op Limit at Penzance Promenade stopping and carrying out checks on drivers and vehicles. 

All drivers that were checked tested negative.

A police spokesperson said: “Op Limit is the national Christmas drink and drug driving operation that all Police forces will support and will run continuously until January 1.

“The operation's primary aim is to prevent deaths and serious injuries caused by people choosing to drive while under the influence.

“Later at 8pm officers travelling into Hayle saw a vehicle being driven well below normal driving standards.

“The vehicle was stopped and driver arrested for driving under the influence and other offences.

“We will be carrying out more Op Limit checks over the Christmas period in our area.
