PLANS to open a new post office in Newquay have been given the stamp of approval.
The Central Square Post Office is to re-open at the Spar in Tower Road on Thursday, June 6 at 1pm.
Tower Road Post Office opening hours will be Monday to Sunday between 8am and 8pm, which will provide 84 hours of Post Office service a week.
This is significantly longer than the opening hours previously offered.
Post Office partner account manager, Adam Shillcock, said: “We know how important a Post Office is to a community and we are looking forward to soon restoring a branch to this area of Newquay.”
Customers were left disappointed when the Central Square Post Office shut in January.
Postmaster Paul Gatheridge stated he decided to close as the business was “no longer viable.”
He said his customers are dwindling due to the many ways people can now send letters and parcels.
The closure followed the main Post Office in East Street being among 115 Crown Post Offices across the country that are under threat of closure.
