PLANS have been proposed to convert a café in St Columb Major into a shop and flat.
A listed building consent planning application has been submitted for a change of use to convert a café to a haberdashery shop and first floor flat at Town And Country Kitchen in Fore Street.
Rowett Architecture, on behalf of the applicant, said: “The proposal will provide housing for the local community on the upper floors of a currently underutilised existing building, and in a place which is surrounded by residential dwellings.
“The proposal will also reopen a shop on the lower floors within the high street of St Columb. The proposed shop will be a haberdashery business.
“The proposed alterations are of a minor scale and will have little impact on the historic character of the property. However, they will significantly improve the suitability of the change of use.
“Since the proposed works of the listed building are limited to internal, and provides a new dwelling within an existing building, it is expected that the application will be viewed positively.
“The selected materials have been carefully chosen to ensure they are suitable for the historical context of the building, while also upgrading it to meet modern standards.”
