A NEIGHBOURHOOD plan more than seven years in the making, which will help shape the future of one of the largest parishes in Cornwall, has been backed in a referendum.
St Stephen in Brannel Parish Council in the Clay Country near St Austell is delighted that the neighbourhood development plan has received approval in the public vote.
A parish council spokesperson said: “This means that the plan will now be officially adopted by Cornwall Council and the document will have legal planning weight in the determining of planning applications within St Stephen in Brannel Parish.
“The results were as follows: the number of votes cast in favour was 619 and the number of votes cast against was 84. The turnout was 12.24 per cent.”
Parish council chairman Julie Broad said: “Our thanks go to all those who contributed to the drawing up of the neighbourhood development plan which took over seven years to complete, especially Councillor Kim Wonnacott who led a dedicated team of councillors and volunteers from within the parish.
“Many hours of commitment were given, utilising the highly valuable input from our parishioners in making sure the plan delivers in helping us to protect the future of our parish.”
