People are invited to dress up in Santa suits and hit the surf in Newquay on Saturday to celebrate Christmas and help raise money for good causes.

Escape Surf School is staging its annual Santa Surf at Towan Beach in aid of the RNLI, The Wave Project and Surfers Against Sewage at 11am.

Owner Mike Young said: “Grab your Santa outfits, Reindeer horns and elf hats or anything else festive that you can wear with a wetsuit and join us for the return of our Santa Surf.

“If you need wetsuits and boards, we can provide them, but we ask for a charitable donation.

“All welcome to take part, which includes surfers, suppers, sliders, spongers and fringers.

“This is not an organised event, just a bunch of surfers getting into the Christmas spirit.

“Please consider your own surfing ability when entering the water.

“We are not providing surf coaching so you must be able to handle yourself in the water.

“Obviously, this is dependant upon surf conditions.”
