NEWQUAY’S most popular play park has closed for six weeks whilst it receives a £152,000 makeover.
Trenance Play Park is having a nautical themed facility built, which is due to be completed in time for the Easter holidays.

The design includes a new junior and toddler area, which would include a Pinta play ship, an integrated carousel, a swinging play zone with two toddler seats and two flat seats.
There will also be a stand-up seesaw, a Mary toddler play ship, a slide, whale climbing unit, steel zipline, dolphin play panel, an underwater diver play panel as well as accessible picnic benches.

The upgraded play park will also include an all-weather surface as the area suffers from drainage issues.
Funds were applied for to upgrade the playpark next to the Heron Tennis Centre following concerns the facility is falling into disrepair.
The play facility was awarded £100,000 of investment from Cornwall Council’s Community Infrastructure Levy Fund and some other funds from the unitary authority.
The nautical theme was chosen out of three designs following a public consultation, which involved local schools.
Councillor Louis Gardner said: “Work has started on the brand new play park.
“It has been two years in the offing.
“We have managed to secure £152,000 but best of all the park has been designed with everyone’s input.
“We have been into three local schools and put the final design out to public survey.
“The winning design, the nautical themed design that is right and fitting for Newquay has been chosen.
“Work is due to continue until Easter, but we will have it open for the Easter holidays.”
A spokesperson for Cormac on behalf of Cornwall Council said: “The works will include the installation of new play equipment and resurfacing of the play area.
“We apologise for any inconvenience the closure may cause and appreciate people’s understanding as we improve the play area for everyone.”
