A Newquay surf therapy charity has made a key appointment to help the organisation move forward.

The Wave Project in Fore Street has recruited Brett Simpson as its new chair of its board of trustees.

Brett brings a wealth of experience to the role. Earlier in his executive career he was a leader of global specialist technology and manufacturing businesses, with a track record of driving performance in challenging market conditions.

He has successfully defined and implemented strategy, engaged and empowered teams, and developed investor trust and support. Brett now has a portfolio of non-executive and advisory roles, helping ambitious management teams deliver real and sustained shareholder value.

Ramon Van de Velde, the chief executive officer at The Wave Project, said: "Brett has been the charity's interim chair for the last few months, and I am delighted that he has been appointed on a permanent basis.

“Brett started with us six years ago as a surf therapy volunteer in Scotland and joined as a trustee in 2020.

“His entrepreneurial spirit, and Board experience in various sectors, has already proven invaluable for us.

“I am very much looking forward to continue to work closely with Brett and the rest of our strong Board to continuously increase our positive impact on the lives of children and young people."

Brett said: "I am delighted that the trustees have asked me to continue in the chair role.

“With a lifetime love of the ocean and surfing it was a no-brainer for me to try volunteering with the Dunbar project a few years ago. Since then, I have been gripped by what we do and the impact we have. I'm very excited about the next chapter of The Wave Project and look forward to working with the team.”
