A Newquay lifeguard who is spearheading a campaign to bring CPR and first aid training as compulsory into the school system has been crowned Miss England.

Milla Magee, aged 23, won the prestigious title against 39 other beauty queens at a glittering ceremony held at the Grand Station in Wolverhampton on Friday (May 17) and will now have the chance to represent England in the 72nd Miss World final.

The Miss Newquay winner recently got the opportunity to talk to Prince William during his visit to Newquay about her ‘Beauty with a Purpose’ project CPR project GOFARWITHCPR and has also held talks with Steve Double who pledged to take the initiative up with Ministers.

Milla said: “Winning Miss England is the biggest honour of my life. I truly believe in the competition and everything it stands for to inspire young girls and women to be better versions of themselves.

“Miss England teaches the contestants to represent their communities as part of the process.

“I have learnt so much along my Miss England journey already, without it I would never have been able to start my Beauty with a Purpose project.

“I will be working hard to make my dream of bringing CPR and first aid training into our school curriculum up and down the country, this skill should be taught to everyone growing up, wherever you live, as the skills to save a life are universal.

“I am so proud to join forces by volunteering with our local St John’s Ambulance, as well as talk with my local MP to get ministers talking about a way forward.

“I want to say thank you to his Royal Highness Prince William who I had the pleasure of meeting for supporting my ‘Beauty with a Purpose’ project to leave a positive legacy for our future generations. I hope I can make a difference.”

Mother Katrina Russell said: “It was one of the proudest moments of my entire life.

“I have watched Milla evolve into the most amazing person I know. She will do her country proud during the role of Miss England.

“It is an amazing honour and one she takes very seriously. I am so excited for the next part of the journey, the road to Miss World and to watch Milla get her 'Beauty with a Purpose' project into schools around the country and further, a project I truly believe in. What a fantastic year ahead it's going to be.

“I grew up watching Miss England and it would be great to see it back on the television. It is a great show, and contestants are making a real difference rather than Love Island where all contestants are doing is walking around in bikinis.”
