NEWQUAY Christmas lights switch on delivered the festive spirit on Friday night.

Hundreds of people gathered at the Killacourt bandstand for the countdown, festivities and fireworks.

Mayor Drew Creek, his son Carter and Miss England Mila Magee were given the honour of pushing down the plunger to illuminate the lights, which also covered the Killacourt for the first time this year.

Fireworks were let off and the Huer’s Hut was illuminated to celebrate the festive occasion. The crowd was also entertained by the Will Eason Band and the Good Old Fashioned Lover Boys.

People were able to purchase lots of gifts at the Christmas market. There were various attractions for children to enjoy including fairground rides and a giant snow globe.

Councillor Creek said: “The switch on was just epic.

“This year was the biggest and best year yet. There were more Christmas lights including Killacourt for the first time, more rides, more retail stalls, more music, more snow and many more people.

“My thanks go to Melissa who is our events manager at Newquay Town Council.

“She took everything I asked of her and knocked it out the park.”
