Health chiefs are warning people in Cornwall of misleading information about a suicide prevention helpline.
NHS Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Integrated Care Board members say they are aware of posts circulating on social media about a new suicide prevention helpline number, 998. A spokesperson said: “Please be aware that this is an American helpline that does not work in the UK.
“Whilst we appreciate that these posts are being shared with the best intentions, they are not helpful in terms of signposting those who may be struggling with their mental health to access the best available support services.”
If you are worried about your own or someone else’s mental health, please call the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly 24/7 NHS mental health response line, on 0800 038 5300.
This is free to access by anyone of any age, at any time, day or night.
