My children and I attended the Cornwall Brass Band Association Festival of Cornish Brass last Saturday and was impressed by the performances we saw.

It was such a well-attended event and a huge thank you to the organisers who put so much of themselves into the festival. Of course, the biggest thanks go to the 17 bands that came from across Kernow to perform at St Michael’s Church.

I look forward to next year’s festival.

This past weekend saw the Newquay Roadrunners 10k take place on Sunday morning and our very own town councillor Marco Motta took part in the event.

Cllr Motta wanted me as mayor to thank the team at Newquay Road Runners for such a well organised event and all the Marshalls who gave their time to support this year’s event.

Cllr Motta also wanted it known that having experienced races in across the UK our event in Newquay was bigger, better and safer that he had experienced before. Great job Newquay Road Runners for putting on this fabulous community event.

This weekend coming Newquay Green team and Mr Karl F-T are holding a beach clean on Towan from midday on Saturday, February 8.

This is part of Surfers against Sewage million Mile Clean initiative and Mr F-T will be on hand to help us explore our wonderful coast. Meet at the bottom of the slipway equipment provided but bring your own if you have some.

Phil Trebilcock: Harbour View

A much quieter week ahead, light easterly winds, and dry. Six boats are at Wadebridge boatyard for maintenance and painting, another one going end of month. Ron Eglintons funeral is February 25, St Michaels Church, 11am.

Memberships are due at Newquay Rowing Club before March 1. Good to see lots of lugworm casts on the beach like years ago.

This Saturday is quiz night at 8pm. All welcome.
