A spokesperson for Newquay Lifeboat Station said: “Newquay's RNLI lifeboat volunteers were paged for the first time this year and requested to carry out a shoreline search after clothing and personal items were found on Porth Island.

“The RNLI crew launched both of the charity's inshore lifeboats and searched the area in a moderate south easterly breeze and slight seas alongside police, Newquay coastguard search & rescue team, HM Coastguard Padstow and the Coastguard search & rescue helicopter.

“It was later confirmed that the person had been found safe at home and the search teams were stood down with thanks at 9.20am.

“As well as being the first shout of 2025 for our lifeboat crew, this was also the first shout for one of our newly qualified launch authorities, Ann-Marie, carrying out her first duty week in her new role, acting as the first point of contact for the station 24/7 when the Coastguard request an emergency launch of our RNLI lifeboats.

“A good team effort and positive outcome for all involved.”
