More than £25,000 was raised for Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) at the Eden Project on Sunday (December 4) at the popular 2K Santas on the run event.
The charity’s popular fun run saw more than 600 supporters of all ages dressed in a range of Christmas costumes take on the festive 2k route, which included the Mediterranean biome.
The festive-themed stations included a selfie with an elf, snow, song and sweet stations.
They were generously sponsored by Towergate Insurance, Steve Andrews Tyres, Moose Toys and FAC Property and Lettings, meaning more money raised by those taking part will go straight to the charity. Kiley Pearce, events fundraiser at CHSW said: “Seeing people of all ages gather today in their home-made costumes, and with an amazing attitude towards fund-raising, is just so special.
“They all contributed to funding hundreds of hours of Christmas magic for the children and families that use Little Harbour, and that is why we love holding events like this one.
“We want to say a huge thank you to the Eden Project for their continued support of this event and giving all participants free entry for the day into the attraction also. ”
Providing entertainment was Cornwall Rock Choir and South West Philharmonia and Chorus, led by Marcus Alleyne, Crooked Tempo Samba Band at the start line and Rewind Radio providing festive tunes in the event village.
Money raised from Santas on the Run will go towards offering care and support to local families who use CHSW’s three hospices, including Little Harbour in St Austell.
The hospice provides more than 140 children with life-limiting illnesses and their families’ short breaks, respite and palliative care as well as end-of-life care and bereavement support.
Little Harbour’s doors are open 365 days a year and will be a home from home for families over the festive period too.
