A Newquay cafe has won a national award.

The Garden Cafe at the heritage cottages in Trenance Gardens has been given a Blue Ribbon Award in the National Good Food Awards.

The cafe, which is under new management, has brought in a new look and, with nostalgic menu development, has been successful in appealing to locals and visitors.

Known for its Cornish cream teas, the cafe also has a focus on high quality coffee, customer service and affordable light lunches.

Good reviews and customer feedback have led to the award.

A Good Food Awards spokesperson said: “Our prestigious awards, known as the Blue Ribbon for Delicious Dishes, are bestowed upon those who excel in food quality, service and value.

“We rely on customer feedback, votes and online reviews to ensure that our awards are based on merit and accurately represent the opinions of real diners.

“We firmly believe that businesses like the Garden Cafe are the backbone of our communities and are deserving of recognition for their hard work and unwavering dedication.”

The cafe has indoor and outdoor seating, and is dog friendly.

The staff have also catered for weddings and family celebrations held at the heritage cottages this year.

Cafe owners Louise and Karen said: “We aim to be different. We are actively racing into the past with our food offering, bringing smiles and memories and we focus on the details that make the difference.

“It’s been lovely to see the reaction to what we do and the kindness of our customers to leave their reviews. We can get extremely busy, and our team work hard to maintain what we expect as a level of service and this award is for all of us.”
